Background:
- God not only equips us, but also works within us to produce that which is pleasing to Him
- A God-given assignment is a purposeful task that is meant to glorify Him
- God will empower us to get the assignment done
- At the end of the assignment, God will get the glory
- We must give all the glory that is due to Him because He is worthy
Key Sermon Points:
1. God confronts Moses' insecurity (vv. 1 - 9)
- Moses had some insecurities and voiced his complaints about his assignment due to his insecurities
- God confronts Moses about his insecurities because Moses didn't want the assignment
- God already knows what is in us and knows that He can use us
- Sometimes God has to convince us
- If God is in it, then we ought to be in it too
- God reminds Moses that he can overcome human limitations
- God patiently deals with Moses' apprehension as He also deals with us patiently
- God is longsuffering and gracious
- God gave different signs:
- The rod turned into a snake that became a rod again in Moses' hand (Moses displayed courage and faith by picking up the snake by the tail as God told him to)...a snake symbolizes power over life; This miracle causes the Israelites to believe that the God of their forefathers spoke to him
- Moses' hand became stricken with leprosy...and then healed again; It showed that God has control over everything, including life and death
- Turned water from the Nile River into blood; the Nile River was considered the source of life; God was showing that He has control over the universe and everything
- Moses said that he was not an eloquent speaker, but he had spoken well before (Acts 7:21-23)
- God asked Moses who made his mouth (v. 11) & wanted to use Moses to deliver the people
- God did not ask Moses to go by himself, but God would be with him
- God will go with us and use us as his vessel...and we have to trust God...that makes the difference
- God already knows our impediments and He works mightily through those impediments and gets the glory
- It doesn't matter what excuses we have, God has an answer
- God knew that Aaron (Moses' brother) was on the way...and still used Moses as well as Aaron
2. Send someone else (vv. 10 - 17)
- God kept returning Moses to the place basic issue
- God commanded Moses to go four times...despite Moses' objections
- The real issue was Moses was refusing to trust or obey God
- We need to trust God and be obedient...we won't see the blessing until we trust and obey
- God is saying to us in order to get the blessing that we need, we have to trust him even when we don't see it because it comes by faith
- Once we know what God wants us to do, we must stop asking and start obeying
- We are the only ones that can do what God has called us to do...our tasks are designed for us specifically
- God had a right to be angry with Moses because refusing to obey God takes away God's glory
- Aaron was not God's first choice; so Moses got the 2nd best
- Aaron became a hindrance later on
- Although Aaron was not God's 1st or best choice, God worked with him
- Not everyone can go on the mission that God has called you to
3. The return of Moses to Egypt (vv. 18 - 31)
- Moses had to tell his father-in-law that he had to leave
- If it had not been for his wife, Moses would have been killed
- Sometimes we have to know about the journey to take care of our business before we go on the journey
- Jethro granted him his blessing to go
- God let Moses know that the Pharaoh that sought his life was dead
- What is our assignment? Have we done it or are we asking God to send someone else?
- When God calls us, he equips us to get the job done!
