Background:

  • Every believer has a call of Christ on their life
  • Few are leaders
  • The Lord has placed us in our family, community, and church to fulfill his purpose
  • Our lives in this generation God has called us for a specific purpose
  • God continues to guide each of his children for his work
  • He has planned for every individuals life
  • God's calling is not only includes what we do but also who we are
  • Paul was praying for the Thessalonians and yet through their hard times they stayed faithful to the cause
  • At times we may say one thing but live another way

Key Sermon Points:

1. The Fire in the bush

  • God always hits a moving target - Moses is busy about something, tending his father in law's flock
  • It is about who is occupying mountain not the mountain itself - God was there in all his living burning presence
  • Moses was captivated by the burning bush that was not consumed by the fire
  • Moses was minding his own business- people never know when they may be changed forever when they have an encounter with God
  • God brought Moses where he wanted him to be - it was on God's ground
  • Holiness means we are separated
  • Taking off your shoes is a sign of worship and respect
  • The bush is burning but it never burns out - God's beauty never diminishes or fades it always burns bright
  • God is self existent and does not need anything to keep him going
  • God knows our name and what we are going through even when we do not believe it
  • God has a way of getting our attention even when we do not know it by dealing with different situations in our lives

2. God discloses His heart to Moses

  • God knows where they are and has compassion on them (vs 7)
  • God declares He has personally observed the misery of His people (vs 7-8)
  • God knows what we are going through even when it feels like He is not doing anything, He is working behind the scenes
  • "I have come down" is described as a divine intervention
  • He delivered them from Egypt
  • He took them to a great land- flowing with milk and honey
  • God will bless us but there is still some work in the blessing
  • God's awareness makes a difference

3. God declares the assignment of Moses

  • When Moses was in Egypt he tried to deliver the people but on the backside of the mountain Moses was humbled
  • Sometimes we have too much of the world in us that God has to take it out of us so he can use us
  • The lord was still preparing Moses: 40 years in Egypt and 40 years in Midian
  • We may be training for something God is using us for
  • "Why send me God?"- when God calls us he equips us, we will not be by ourselves (vs. 12)
  • God promised his presence and his power
  • The purpose of the deliverance was that the children of Israel will worship God
  • Yahweh means that God is mysterious, by giving us his name God lets us know who he is
  • To understand God his name is immutable, eternal, and divine
  • God does not say " I was who I was" he says " I AM that I AM" because he has no present or future
  • God has control over nature and creation
  • God can take the ordinary and make it special
  • Moses wanted to know who God was before the dangerous mission
  • It is God who empowers us- he will speak through us
  • God is always on time
  • God is unchangeable
  • None of us know when god when send us on a mission but we are all called to assignment
  • We all have a call on our lives and what makes it effective is that God is going with us
  • God will make you so uncomfortable you will do what God has called you to do
