Background:
- Sin should be talked about more not to highlight it, but to be aware of its proximity
- There is a doom that is inevitable without Christ
- Without Christ we are doomed to failure
- We should think about life and death every day we wake up
- We should think about our eternal plan and how that will go
- Sin is a transgression of the law
- Sin is a failure to conform to God's moral laws in acts, attitude, or nature
- It's a battle...a lot to overcome
Key Sermon Points:
1. The relationship is not the same
- What are you doing about the relationship not being the same?
- The Scripture says we are like little children (new in Christ)...we should approach Christ like a baby
- If we don't approach God like children, we may not get into Heaven (Matthew 18:3)
- Are you willing to say that the relationship is not the same to someone?
- We don't sin to ourselves...it always rubs off onto others
- Walk in the Spirit to win (Galatians 5:16)
- Our greatest enemy is our flesh (Galatians 5:17)
2. We must seek to restore relations impacted by sin
- Whichever sins (Galatians 5:16-21) caused the issue, we must seek to restore the relationship
- James 1:14 shows us how sin develops
- Whatever we judge, we will be judged by (Matthew 7:1-2)
- It's not Biblical to run right to the Senior Pastor with every concern (Exodus 18)
- Examples of why we need to restore: neglect, our examples, discouragement
- We must seek to resolve the issues to not be a stumbling block (Romans 14:13)
3. The method of addressing the sin (v. 15-17)
- Talk to the individual alone first
- If that doesn't work, then bring one or two others
- If that doesn't work, then go to the church
- If that doesn't work, then leave
4. God's view on the matter
- God told us how to settle it
- Church discipline (vv. 19-20)
5. Summary
- Reiterate the importance of Scripture, it can't be about what we think
- The point of Scripture is about growth
- How the Children of God are supposed to interact
- We are to forgive repeatedly (Matthew 18:22)
