Background:
- The Passion Week is about what Jesus felt in His heart for us and what He had to do to show His passion
- Faith of necessity seeks greater understanding
- If we have faith, then we should want to know more about our faith
- This faith should make us more hungry and thirsty
- There should be a goal of application
Key Sermon Points:
1. What some said
- Jesus is on a mission - He has something to do
- We can be upset when a person has 6 months to a year left; Jesus had one week left
- Donkeys and horses are not the same things, both are needed because the colt kept the donkey calm, which was a sign that Jesus was coming in peace
- Walk in faith without knowing where we are going...we have to trust Him
- When studying, place ourselves in the scene and then see how it applies to us
- Jesus proclaimed that He is the Messiah (v. 3)
- The Old Testament foretold of Jesus arriving on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9; Isaiah 62:11)
- The disciples were present along with the religious leaders and the government key figures
- There are some scripture that we will not understand until we go through it (John 12:16)
- Everyone was after Jesus (John 12:19)
- The people recognized that Jesus is fulfilling prophecy (when they laid down their garments and cut down Palm branches)
- Today, the Palm branches are a reminder of the beginning of Jesus' week
- Hosanna indicated that they wanted to be saved now
- They wanted to agree with Heaven
- To get prayers answered, we must pray in accordance with God's will
2. What others said
- Who's the guy on the donkey?
- The people said: Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee (v. 11)
- Muslim, Jehovah Witnesses, and Mormons say otherwise
- If we can live by the law, then we wouldn't need Jesus...but when we know who is on the donkey, then we know we need Him
3. What do you say?
- How will we defend the faith?
- It's all about Jesus (Hebrews 10:7)
- The next time Jesus comes back:
- He will be on a horse
- He will be a Lion not a Lamb
- Kings and judges are temporary because they are not Jesus
- We must watch and pray!
